Handfed birds are
wonderful pets!
As with any pet, they require love, guidance, structure, and lots of
patience.
As pet owners we are responsible for the care and welfare of our
pets.
This includes health care, housing and nutrition. The
purchase of a pet bird should not be an impulse buy, but should be a
well thought out decision as to the type of bird that will best fit into
your home environment.

Never
purchase an unweaned baby bird unless you are an experienced
hand-feeder. |
 |
Do
not place bird cage in a draft. Birds can easily catch a
chill and die from it. |
 |
Do
not place bird on a wet or damp perch. A wet perch can be
slippery and the bird's feet can get cold. |
 |
Never
hit or scream at the bird. This only excites the bird. |
 |
Birds
must be handled daily. This helps keep them tame and
happy. |
 |
Fresh
food and water must be provided daily. |
 |
Set
a bed time for your bird. |
 |
Your
bird's cage must be cleaned weekly. Water and food bowls
cleaned daily. |
 |
We
recommend you have your baby vet checked immediately upon
purchase. Most reputable breeders will give you 72 hrs to
have the baby vet checked. If they will not, ask why!! |
 |
If
you must change the brand of food you are feeding your bird,
this should be done gradually. |
 |
A
few of the foods that we do not give birds are: chocolate, apple
seeds, peach pits, avocados, tea, coffee, soda's (Coca-Cola,
Pepsi, etc.), egg plant. |
 |
All
birds should be fed a varied diet which should include the
following: Pellets, seed, fruits and veggies. |
 |
READ,
READ, READ, as much as you can. |
 |
Your
VET is your bird's best friend (next to you). I cannot
stress strongly enough how important it is to have a good vet
for your bird! |
